A conversation with a friend about the psychological stagnation arising from the long-standing demand for Gorkhaland  became the starting point for this series. Using gardens,
a ubiquitous presence in the hills, as an entry point, the work considers the region's political landscape through spaces often perceived as quiet and apolitical.
 

While gardens are often understood as sites of beauty, refuge or retreat, the photographs question the idea of them as politically neutral. Instead, they explore how landscapes, however quiet they appear, can carry traces of memory, identity and the subtle presence
of politics in everyday life.
